Objectives
- To build on an existing critical mass of expertise to stimulate opportunities in research technology and innovation in support of growing the maritime economy in line with national objectives.
- To build on an existing critical mass of expertise to stimulate opportunities in research technology and innovation in support of growing the sustainable and renewable energy technologies in line with national objectives.
- To achieve this through the implementation of a strategic partnership to cluster activities within a Maritime and Energy Campus concept, including a physical hub in Ringaskiddy, Cork.
- To build on the unique strengths of the institutions in the region by focusing on the application of R&D for the benefit of the maritime and energy sectors (including on the maritime front offshore energy, maritime transport and coastal resources and on the energy front renewable and sustainable energy).
- To ensure that innovation in industry occurs in tandem with innovation in governance and environmental management by taking a holistic view of policy drivers for the sustainable development of the energy sector and sustainable use of the maritime resource.
- To complement other regional maritime cluster initiatives in the National Interest and in the spirit of the Blue Book on a Maritime Policy for Europe.
- To become the centre of gravity in the Governments drive for sustainable and renewable energy.
